How can we remove barriers to help empower rangatahi to explore technology? This talk explores the strategies Tūhura Tech have implemented to directly engage rangatahi and support them in discovering technology, using a sustainable rangatahi-led approach.
Join the free NDF webinar with Leon Bowie from Tūhura Tech, to learn how they work with young people to support them and enable them to fully engage with our digital world - in a way that is unique to them and sets them up for the future.
Tūhura Tech takes a “bring it to them” approach, going directly into communities to meet rangatahi where they are. By working with rangatahi on projects that interest them - whether it's game design, coding, robotics, or hacking - they foster an environment where they feel seen, heard, and inspired. This approach builds trust and allows rangatahi to grow beyond what is expected, proving that the only true barrier to their potential is what they have been exposed to.
Through exploring the strategies and methods of Tūhura Tech as a case study, this discussion will be useful for anyone who is hoping to engage rangatahi with digital and technology, especially those working in education and public programming.
Once Leon has given an overview of the Tūhura Tech approach, he’d like to invite the audience into the discussion. This means that you’ll be welcome to turn your camera and mic on and participate. You could ask questions or share your thoughts on the topic, not only for Leon, but for other participants in the call. The session will be moderated by our NDF board host, Claire Lanyon. She’ll provide clear instructions on how to participate.
If you do participate, please be aware that the session will be recorded and eventually released publicly on YouTube.
If you’d like to just watch and listen, no worries. You can keep your camera off and your mic on mute, and even change your Zoom display name if you want full anonymity.
