Getting Started with Digital Preservation - Tim Barnett

Digital Preservation can seem like an overwhelming practice to get started with: an abundance of technical terms and formats, software and storage choices, and processes to introduce, adapt, and maintain.

Held on Wednesday 10 September, 2025, this webinar was presented by Tim Barnett, Team Leader Digital Research Collections at Auckland Council Libraries (ACL) and hosted by Valerie Love, NDF Board Member and Senior Digital Archivist at National Library of New Zealand.

Tim covers the core topics you need to consider to get started, including setting goals and working with your IT department, figuring out your current state, and assessing storage and software options. Learn how to move from theory to practice, one step at a time.

If you’re from a smaller organisation or working with a limited budget, Tim also looks at the approaches you can use to cover the basics. The webinar is a good check-in for anyone who is early on in their digital preservation journey.
